Alcatraz starts fort to protect San Francisco and the Bay, for a while until the civil war starts and instead of using it for a fort, they turn it into a minimum security prison for prisoners of war.As time went by, the military prison became a federal prison and things began to change; the Great Depression and the Prohibition came through and all saw a huge increase in crime during the late 20’s and 30’s.This is when organized crime come on to the scene, it was not good because the American people saw how the mafia groups take over entire areas and how they would many times beat the police because of their superior weapons.For attempt to stop the situation, Alcatraz was the solution that the government came up with, get the bad guys away from the good guys.They give a good warning to all who remained.

Special galleries were set up that allowed only armed guards to patrol on the prisoners while being behind iron bars the whole time. Tear gas canisters were installed that could be remotely activated from various places and guard towers set up around the perimeter.In the cell house had 350 cells, were placed far away from the walls.managed to get out of the cell you still had to find a way out of the cell house, not to mention other obstacles and the freezing waters.
